Former U.S. President Donald Trump wasn’t happy to see Shedeur Sanders slide in the NFL Draft. He took to social media on Draft Day 2 to share his outrage. The next day, on Day 3 of the draft, the Cleveland Browns selected the former Colorado QB with their 144th overall pick.
When asked whether the president’s post propelled the team to select Sanders, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt didn’t hold back. Her answer has the room of journalists cracking up.

Karoline Leavitt Brings Up Donald Trump’s Shedeur Sanders Post, Gets Everyone Laughing
Following the first day of the 2025 NFL Draft, when Shedeur Sanders failed to receive a pick. President Donald Trump did not remain silent.
He blasted the NFL on social media, saying, “What is wrong with NFL owners? Are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, [sic] and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart!”
He added, “Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”
The following day, the Browns selected Sanders. But now, people are wondering if Trump hadn’t spoken out, would Shedeur have had to wait another day?

So, what does that mean? Maybe Trump didn’t make any calls or push any teams directly. But his voice did seem to have an influence — maybe not a huge one, but it was there.
