“Well, I’m really excited about the direction we are headed right now. I mean, you know, there are so many things to get done in year one. Umm, you know you’re trying to get to know your roster,” he revealed.
“You’re trying to bring new guys in. You’re trying to keep the guys on your roster, and I think you know, understanding this league on a much more dynamic level as a coaching staff, and understanding our players and how they fit within our systems. We took a huge jump, you know, from it, from a spring standpoint,” he continued.
He was candid about the success of keeping players from transferring away from the team.
“Umm, we were able to retain more players, more depth. I am excited about some of the guys returning this season.”
The defensive coordinator spoke about head coach Kalen DeBoer as well.
“That was huge in January and then, you know, I think to he able to retain the players that we did as a real nod and the tip of the cap to coach DeBoer and how proactive he is in terms of having conversations with not only the players but families and representatives right for those players.”

Wommack, the 38-year-old former DC at Alabama, believes that the team is moving ahead in the right direction.
“We were very proactive, and I think we were the only team in the SEC that didn’t lose a scholarship player. So I think that’s a nod in the right direction that the players enjoy what we are doing, believe in what we are doing, and are excited to go to work every day.”
Meanwhile, in the recently concluded NFL Draft, the University of Alabama had seven former players selected, including four picks across Saturday’s final three rounds. The team is scheduled to face Florida State in the season opener on August 30.
