“Handed Him a Used Rolls Royce”: Colin Cowherd Minces No Words on Hardships Behind Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama Takeover From Nick Saban

Nick Saban decided to hang up his boots and announced his retirement at the age of 72 after head coaching the Alabama team for 17 years.

Saban is considered among the “GOATS” of the game, with nine SEC titles and 7 national championships. It’s only fair for the fans to worry about the program’s future when he decided to leave.

However, when Kalen DeBoer joined the program as the Crimson Tide’s next head coach, many analysts, including Josh Pate, thought he was a homerun. Although that confidence in the ex Washington head coach was shaken a bit after their 9-4 season in 2024.

While, the 2025 seasons started on a bad note due to a crushing loss against Florida State in week 1, Alabama has now gained momentum for themselves and are sitting at an overall record of 8-1.

Talking about DeBoer’s journey and how people thought he had it easy, Colin Cowherd said on Tuesday:

“Kalen DeBoer, Sioux Falls, Fresno State, Washington, he was 25-3. People assumed, well, it’s Bama. He didn’t have to rebuild anything. I said, ‘No, no, time out. It’s a whole different ballgame. This is Bama Nil. That’s a whole different ballgame. Secondly, he is different than Nick and there’s going to be things he likes, coordinators he does, doesn’t.’ I’m like, he was almost punished because everybody thought Nick handed him a Rolls-Royce. And I’m like, no, he handed him a used Rolls-Royce. It wasn’t as dominant as it was two years earlier. Georgia now had as good or better players. And the NIL world had changed.”

“Texas now could just buy players. So, um, if you watch Bama and you watch Kalin Dbor with quarterbacks, I think Ohio State’s the best team I’ve seen. I think Bama’s, too. I think Bama is the second best team in the country.”

Donald Trump Puts Forward Nick Saban’s Name To “Fix” College Sports

The college sports world has been having a lot of problems that need fixing, be it how teams use NIL, or how the players can use transfer portal, many coaches and analysts agree there needs to be some ground rules that need to be in place to save the ethnicity of the game.

During a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on November 11, Donald Trump, who is the President of the United States, was asked about his opinion on whether he thinks Nick Saban can be the person who can “fix college sports,” to which he replied:

“Well I know him, and I got to know him because he brought his team to the White House,” Trump said. “He won a lot, and I got to know him. He’s a fantastic guy, and you know he’s somebody they should really get involved in college sports in terms of making sure it all works out because what’s happening, it looks like it’s not working out too well.” Trump said.

Trump further added that Saban knows this stuff better than anybody else and that he would be really active in things, and said that he would listen to the stuff the ex Alabama head coach would have to say.
