Which is faster in college football: Rumours or a quarterback running a 40-yard dash? You got it right; rumors spread quickly, and the truth takes time to prevail. One rumor surrounding the Alabama Crimson Tide was an exodus of wide receivers if Jalen Milroe returned in 2025. Head coach Kalen DeBoer has addressed the rumors.

Kalen DeBoer Dismisses 2025 WR Exodus Rumors Linked to Jalen Milroe’s Potential Return
Before the 2025 NFL Draft, it was rumored that Alabama’s wide receivers threatened to leave through the transfer portal if Milroe decided not to enter the draft. Milroe has been the team’s shining light. He is the starting quarterback and has one year of eligibility left.
But ahead of the draft, there were rumors that Milroe would not be entering the NFL Draft. These reports sparked speculation that other wide receivers on the team would revolt if Milroe returned. DeBoer has addressed these concerns for the first time, stating that the rumors are “a little far-fetched.”
“I think I’ve heard that same quote, and I think the word ‘all’ was used, so whenever absolutes are used like that, I kind of question it right there,” DeBoer said, commenting on the rumors during a radio interview on Sports Radio 93.3 KJR in Seattle. “I don’t think we would have lost all our receivers for anything.”
Thankfully, Milroe’s decision to enter the draft killed the rumors. Milroe was selected in the 3rd round by the Seattle Seahawks. Although Milroe left Alabama, six other wide receivers entered the transfer portal. Thankfully, none of these players had a significant impact on the team in the 2024 season, so their exit is a win-win for them and Alabama.
DeBoer still has some experienced hands to turn to after the departure of Milroe. Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard are two players who will fill the gap left by Milroe. Having a veteran and an efficient freshman will give Alabama the quality foundation it needs to build on for the upcoming season.

Now that Milroe, DeBoer, and Alabama have killed the rumors, they must focus on the future. Milroe, now in the NFL, must ensure he does not allow his performance levels to drop. DeBoer must now shift attention to assembling a team that will improve on last season’s record.
DeBoer’s vision and experience will be needed to guide his team to a great season.
