Alabama Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer is in the hot seat after their recent disappointing loss. On Thursday, Jan. 1, DeBoer and the rest of his Crimson Tide team faced coach Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers in this year’s college football playoffs quarterfinals, held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
In the highly anticipated game, played on neutral ground, DeBoer was unable to lead his team to victory and advance into the semifinals, as the Crimson Tide lost by a staggering 35 points, 38-3. This is much to the dismay of the Alabama faithful, who are used to a winning culture. Additionally, scoring only three points in a playoff game has raised concerns.
College football fans expressed their anger towards DeBoer, calling for his firing from the Crimson Tide program.
“DeBoer should be fired at halftime for coaching malpractice. Down 3-0 going for it on your own 35, 4th and 1 is absurd,” one fan pointed out.
“If Alabama lose this game, Kalen DeBoer needs to be fired,” another fan asserted.
“Kalen DeBoer could’ve stayed at Washington and be a god in Seattle for years! Instead, he let his ego get the best of him by going to Alabama and, if he’s not fired after this performance in the Rose Bowl, will be on one of the hottest coaching seats going into the 2026 season,” another user said.
“It’s no way Kalen DeBoer got a job come Monday,” a user claimed.
Other X users continued to criticize DeBoer by mentioning his lapses as a head coach in collegiate football, evidenced by recent occurrences.
“I’ve seen enough, 2 plays: Kalen DeBoer having Austin Mack on his roster and using Ty Simpson should be a fireable offense. Complete malpractice,” one fan wrote.
“That fourth-down call sums up the Kalen DeBoer era up to this point at Alabama. Just too soft offensively,” another user posted.
“Kalen DeBoer is overseeing the slow demise of Alabama football lmao,” a user shared.
This year’s Crimson Tide squad finished with an overall record of 11-4 (7-1 SEC). They entered the postseason as the top seed in the SEC. Alabama was hoping to use the momentum gained from its college football playoffs first-round victory over coach Brent Venables’ Oklahoma Sooners, which it won 34-24 on Dec. 19.

Kalen DeBoer Was In The Second Year Of His Alabama Crimson Tide Tenure
Fans’ pleading with the Alabama Crimson Tide program to fire Kalen DeBoer comes as the tenured tactician just wrapped up his second year at the helm of the team’s coaching staff.
He followed in the footsteps of former Crimson Tide coach and current sportscaster Nick Saban, who had Alabama under his tutelage for 16 years from 2007 to 2023.
