When Kalen DeBoer replaced Nick Saban as Alabama’s head coach, many analysts and fans celebrated the decision as they thought the ex-Washington head coach was the perfect person for the job.
However, DeBoer’s run with the Crimson Tide has not been as smooth as one would hope. After a disappointing 9-4 season in the 2024 college football season, many individuals were looking forward to seeing some improvement in the 2025 season.
Unfortunately, Alabama’s 2025 season started on a bad note as they faced a disappointing loss against Mike Norvell’s Florida State in a 31-17 showdown.
In a video posted on Tuesday on X, Joel Klatt shared his thoughts on Alabama opening their season with a shattering defeat. According to Klatt, Kalen DeBoer’s team failed to give their 100% and weren’t desperate to win the game.
“I am dumbfounded and panicked about Alabama, Florida State beat them badly in the effort game. Where was the effort? Where was the pride? This was a program that had the best players in the sport playing as if their life depended on for 15 years they would play like they were desperate for their next breath of air.”
“They played hard that Alabama team on Saturday that was a shell of its former self. Where was the effort like?” he added. “Where was where was the pride that offensive line was supposed to be good. They got manhandled by Florida State. This was not a top 10 matchup. This was a Florida State team trying to pick themselves up out of the gutter. They won two games last year, two. Most of their losses, they lost by 10 or more.”
To say that I am concerned for Alabama is an understatement…what was that? Where is the effort?

Kalen DeBoer Breaks Silence on Alabama’s Devastating Loss
The hot seat conversation around Kalen DeBoer was in the background after the 2024 season, however, it has increased by a massive margin ever since the FSU loss in Week 1.
In a weekly SEC coaches teleconference, Deboer said that the whole team is extremely upset about the outcome of the game on Saturday. He further added that the guys did a nice job and now it’s on the coaches to help them execute better moving forward, put them in great spots to be successful.
Kalen DeBoer also said that they will now emphasize everything that involves in bringing your best each and every day and again, it starts with us coaches. We’ve all taken that responsibility.
