Before the 2025 season began, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders showed confidence in Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter for all the right reasons. The quarterback was coming off a season where he threw for 1,886 yards with 15 touchdowns.
However, Salter’s performance has left Coach Prime with no choice but to replace him. After a poor start in the recent game against the Arizona Wildcats, Sanders replaced Salter with freshman Julian Lewis, who completed 9 of 17 passes for 121 yards and one touchdown in the 52-17 loss. On the other hand, Salter completed 11 of 15 passes for just 49 yards while throwing for one touchdown against one interception.
In this week’s game against West Virginia, Sanders is reportedly expected to start with freshman Lewis for the first time this season.
“Colorado is currently expected to make a QB change and start freshman Julian Lewis versus West Virginia this weekend, sources tell CBS Sports,” Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports wrote on X on Sunday night.

After this development, several fans mocked Salter’s performance this season.
“I just don’t understand why we didn’t start him after game 3/4 let salt hit the portal,” one fan wrote.

“Kaidon Salters, WALMART IS HIRING. Football is not in your future,” another fan commented.

“And the towel has officially been thrown in Boulder, hope the kid gets some valuable experience,” one fan added.
“He should of been starting a long time ago,” one fan said about Lewis.
Meanwhile, some fans also used the opportunity to mock Deion Sanders.
“Deion Sanders played 4 quarterbacks in a football game. The man doesn’t have the slightest clue what he’s doing. Nobody in his inner circle or friends are willing to call him out on it. This time next year, Sanders will be on the hot seat,” one fan reacted.
“They need to make the change at head coach, prime is fucking a*s😂😭💀” another fan posted.
“Colorado is trash and Sanders is the garbage man,” one fan noted.

Julian Lewis’ Redshirt Status In Jeopardy After Deion Sanders’ Latest Decision
According to NCAA rules, a player may participate in up to four games and still preserve a redshirt for the season. Lewis has already played in the loss to the Arizona Wildcats and in another game against Delaware earlier this season.
With three games remaining in the season, if starting quarterback Lewis starts in all the remaining games, he won’t be able to apply for a redshirt season in 2025.
Deion Sanders’ latest move suggests that Colorado would rather gain experience for him now than sit him out and preserve his eligibility.
