The Ohio State Buckeyes are fighting for their chance to stay No. 1 against their most bitter rivals, the Michigan Wolverines, and Julian Sayin is leading the charge. The Ohio State quarterback is part of the reason why they are currently ranked as the best team in the country, with the team boasting a still-undefeated record of 11-0. This raises the question: Is Sayin good enough to win the Heisman this year?
The sophomore quarterback has been putting up the numbers, passing for 2,832 yards and having 27 touchdown passes with only four interceptions so far. He also has 239 completions for 301 attempts with a 79.4% completion rate. This means that stats-wise, he is looking good.
Is this good enough to win the Heisman, though? DraftKings Sportsbook certainly believes so, as they have ranked him as the No. 2 favorite to win college football’s most important individual award.
He is currently ranked behind Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, who FanDuel has at a -125 chance to win the Heisman trophy, while Julian Sayin himself has a +400 chance. Meanwhile, Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, the only non-quarterback in the top six, is a close third in the rankings with a +450 chance. These rankings were made ahead of Week 14.
Things should get more interesting after Week 14, called “Rivalry Week,” as Mendoza and the Indiana Hoosiers have now secured their ticket Big Ten conference title and furthering his argument for the Heisman. Meanwhile, Sayin and the Ohio State Buckeyes still need to beat eternal rivals Michigan to clinch that second conference finals game and take on Indiana.
Should the Buckeyes beat Michigan and then beat Mendoza and Indiana at the Big Ten championship game, then this should make Sayin’s case for the Heisman stronger while also weakening Mendoza’s.

Win Vs. Rutgers Strengthened Julian Sayin’s Case For Heisman
During that dominating 42-9 win over Rutgers, Julian Sayin made one of his best arguments to win the Heisman yet. He did not have his two best wide receivers during this game, as both Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate were out with injuries, but he still performed very well.
Sayin passed for 157 yards, completing 13 of 19 attempts and having zero interceptions. These led to two touchdowns, with Ohio State demolishing the Scarlet Knights in one of the most one-sided victories they have had this year.
Still, even if he would not win the Heisman this year, Sayin still has plenty of chances next year, and an argument could be made for that since he is still a sophomore.
