Football runs in Julian Lewis’ family. His father, TC Lewis, was a football player for the UConn Huskies, and his grandfather, Ty Lewis, was a high school football coach. Being close to the sport, it’s understandable that TC Lewis would get involved in his son’s recruitment.
In the summer of 2024, before Julian Lewis committed to the Colorado Buffaloes, Lewis Sr. seemed in favor of his son attending the school. For him, it was all about Julian having opportunities and being in a place with the right energy around him.
During an interview in July 2024, TC Lewis said:
“It’s foolish to assume anything. Like you gotta plan and prepare for everything in any scenario… The kid just wants an opportunity to walk into a situation where there’s not a cemented starter.”
“I think there’s a lot of reliability for [Coach Prime] and I. He’s a quarterback dad, Pat Shurmur’s a quarterback dad. People forget that. Not only are they coaches, but they’re fathers,” he added.
Regarding Julian Lewis’s mother, there is no public information. This might change after the 2025 season kicks off, but for the moment, she remains a mystery.
Lewis has been named the Colorado Buffaloes’ backup for Week 1, when they face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in their season opener in Folsom Field on Friday, Aug. 29.

Colorado Buffaloes expected to play Julian Lewis during Week 1
Kaidon Salter has been named the starter for the Buffaloes’ opening game against Georgia Tech on Friday. This is a sensible move, considering that Salter already has two seasons of experience as a starter with the Liberty Flames. Not only that, he was the C-USA MVP and the C-USA championship MVP in 2023. It’s safe to say that he’s a consummated starter at the FBS level.
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has announced that Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter will start at QB against Georgia Tech.

However, that doesn’t mean that Julian Lewis is completely out of mind for Deion Sanders. The Colorado coach is expected to have Lewis play some sort of role during the season opener against the Yellow Jackets, according to a report earlier this week by On3’s Pete Nakos.
If so, it would be a great honor for the true freshman. Freshmen rarely get opportunities to make an impact, even if they’re five-star recruits.
