After that tough loss at home against Georgia Tech, Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are aiming to bounce back against Delaware. This time, however, the former Dallas Cowboys superstar has revealed that he is changing things up and is letting five-star freshman quarterback Julian Lewis play.
“He’s playing this week for sure. I know when we’re going to see him. You just don’t know when you’re going to see him,” he said ahead of the Saturday game against Delaware.
While Coach Prime did confirm that Julian Lewis will be playing against Delaware on Saturday, he did not reveal if the freshman would be starting that game at all. Because of this, many do not expect Lewis to start the game, with Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter continuing his role as Colorado’s starting quarterback for now.
“Work with me. He’s playing. All right? He’s playing. You’ve got to understand, I love that kid, man, I really do. And I want him to be extremely successful. Sometimes you don’t want to rush things… You want to make sure the timing is right. I don’t think the time was appropriate last week,” he added.
Salter already has plenty of experience, and that was one of the reasons why Sanders chose him over Lewis, who came into Boulder with plenty of hype.
Salter did not impress during his debut as Colorado’s new QB1 against Georgia Tech, as he had some pretty big shoes to fill after Shedeur Sanders left to play in the NFL. Despite this, many credited that loss to Georgia Tech’s stifling defense and the Colorado offensive line faltering against the Yellow Jackets. This means that Salter still has plenty of time to prove that he is worthy of that QB1 nod.

Skip Bayless Backs Julian Lewis Over Kaidon Salters
Meanwhile, a lot of people have been joining the chorus of voices asking for Julian Lewis to be the new starting quarterback for Colorado. Among them is renowned analyst Skip Bayless, who said that Kaidon Salter had been lacking in the Buffaloes’ opener against the Yellow Jackets.
“Kaidon Salter is a shifty scrambler but just not accurate enough as a passer. Feels like Deion is going to have to give 5-star Julian Lewis a shot sooner than later,” he said.

Many believe Salter is just a placeholder until Julian Lewis finally adjusts to the college game, and with that performance against Georgia Tech, many believe that Lewis is about to step up to the plate soon.
