5-Star QB Julian Lewis Drops Cryptic Message After Devastating Loss Against West Virginia in Week 11

Julian Lewis’ first collegiate start for Colorado ended in heartbreak. The Buffaloes fell 29–22 to West Virginia in Week 11, extending what has been a frustrating season for Deion Sanders’ program. Despite the loss, Lewis showcased the talent that made him one of the most coveted recruits in the country.

The true freshman completed 22 of 35 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns, showing poise and control even under heavy pressure. His accuracy on intermediate routes and chemistry with wideout Omarion Miller stood out, keeping Colorado competitive deep into the fourth quarter.

However, the Buffaloes once again struggled to finish drives. Their offense stalled in crucial moments, and defensive lapses allowed West Virginia to take control late. The defeat not only eliminated Colorado’s faint bowl hopes but also added another layer of disappointment to a season that began with high expectations.

After the game, Lewis posted a message on his Instagram Story that is bound to catch fans’ attention. The photo showed him wearing Colorado gear with a Bible verse from Isaiah 41:10 that read”

“Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.”

The message might resonate with many as a sign of faith and perseverance, but could also come across as cryptic to others, a quiet reflection of a young quarterback processing both personal and team adversity.

For a freshman stepping into one of college football’s biggest spotlights, it felt like a moment of maturity and self-belief.

    Deion Sanders Praised Julian Lewis

Following the game, head coach Deion Sanders addressed his young quarterback’s debut, commending Lewis for his composure and leadership. Sanders acknowledged that the freshman made mistakes, but he emphasized that Lewis showed flashes of brilliance that validated the decision to start him.

The coach noted that Lewis played well enough to win, had the right mindset, and gave Colorado a fighting chance against a tough West Virginia team.

“First start. He did some wonderful things. And you can see that Julian Lewis is going to be very special. And to me, overall, the kid played well. He played well enough for us to win the game,” Sanders SAID during the post-game press conference.

The loss dropped the Buffaloes to 3–7 overall and 1–6 in conference play, effectively ending their postseason hopes. Still, Sanders pointed to Lewis as a bright spot in an otherwise challenging campaign.

As the season winds down, Colorado’s focus has shifted from immediate results to long-term growth.
