Former Penn State wide receiver Julian Fleming is in the hot spot as he faces serious allegations like vehicular homicide, aggravated assault, and related offenses following the death of his girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd, in a tragic car crash in May.
The incident happened on May 23, 2025, when Fleming, as a driver, was riding with Boyd in a 2024 Yamaha ATV on a rural road in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Their ATV struck a deer, resulting in a collision. His girlfriend was pronounced dead at the scene, while Fleming sustained injuries. Neither was wearing a helmet.
The alcohol concentration in Fleming’s blood was found to be between 0.10 % and 0.16 %, exceeding Pennsylvania’s legal limit of 0.08 %. He even told the police that he drank five or six beers before the drive.
Because of this, on Wednesday, he was arraigned in Bradford County court with the following charges (via CBS News):
- Homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence
- Homicide by vehicle (without the DUI enhancement)
- Aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence
- Aggravated assault by vehicle (non-DUI)
Fleming’s late girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd, was from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and played multiple sports at Central Columbia High School. She was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Alabama. Her parents are David Jr. and Lorie Boyd. She also has a brother named Zachary.
Her family has reportedly started a GoFundMe page, the proceeds of which will be used to give a scholarship in her name.

Julian Fleming’s Bail Set At $75,000
Julian Fleming’s bail was set by the court at $75,000, which his family is willing to pay. Moreover, the next hearing is set for later in October.
Regarding the charges, Fleming’s lawyer, David Bahuriak, has called it just an accident and not criminal in nature.
“In my view,” Bahuriak said, “the prosecution here took a tragic and unavoidable accident and turned it into a crime when the facts don’t support that. The facts don’t support criminal homicide.”
Coming out as a top recruit from Southern Columbia High School in Pennsylvania, Fleming started with Ohio State before transferring to Penn State last season. He recorded 14 receptions for 176 yards and one touchdown in 16 games for the Nittany Lions. He entered the NFL draft, but after going undrafted, he was signed by the Green Bay Packers. But he never made it through after failing the physical.
