“Fall Camp Is No Joke”: Colorado QB JuJu Lewis Gets Worn Out by Deion Sanders’ Intense Training Post Cancer Battle

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders made headlines on Monday when he had a press conference with the Colorado medical team announcing his cancer battle. Coach Prime was away from the team at various points in the offseason because of an unspecified health issue. On Monday, it was revealed that he was battling bladder cancer. Fortunately, he had successful surgery to remove his bladder and a cancerous tumor along with it.

While there was speculation that Coach Prime could take a step back from coaching to recover, that is not the case. Instead, he is running just as intense a fall training camp as ever. On Friday, freshman quarterback Julian “JuJu” Lewis posted a video to his Instagram story of himself sleeping after an intense practice. He included a five-word caption explaining how he is feeling practicing under Deion Sanders.

“Fall camp is no joke,” Julian Lewis wrote.

Deion Sanders’ Intense Training Camp Will Determine if Julian Lewis Is the Starting Quarterback This Year

One of the biggest obstacles facing Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes this offseason is replacing their two biggest stars. Two-way star Travis Hunter and QB Shedeur Sanders are starting their NFL careers and need to be replaced. While it is impossible to replace what Hunter did with one player, the team will need a new starting QB to replace Sanders.

The Buffaloes have brought in two players to compete for the starting job: Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis. Salter is a transfer from Liberty and the favorite to earn the starting job as he heads into his final NCAA season. He has performed at a high level early in training camp, including making an eye-catching pass to Omarion Miller this week.

However, Salter is not the only one performing well at training camp. Julian Lewis has also made some impressive passes, including one to Omarion Miller, similar to Salter.

Deion Sanders spoke in early July about the quarterback situation in Colorado, explaining that he does not know which one will be the starter.

“We brought both of them because I don’t know which one is going to start,” Deion Sanders said. “We can’t lose either way, with either of those two.”

As a result, competition levels should be high until the start of the season and beyond.
