After Shedeur Sanders’ departure to the NFL, Coach Prime will have a big void to fill in the QB room. The Colorado Buffaloes have five-star, Class of 2025 prospect Julian “JuJu” Lewis to take over the reins after the Buffs have officially wrapped up the 2024 season with a loss in the Alamo Bowl.
On Sunday, Dec. 29, the future Colorado QB made a bold promise to his predecessor on social media, catching the attention of several Colorado fans.
Julian Lewis Vows To Carry Forward the Legacy of Shedeur Sanders
The 17-year-old quarterback has big shoes to fill when he starts for the Buffaloes in the near future. A program that had fallen out of top-end college football discussions after its strong run in the early ’90s is looking to become a powerhouse that attracts talent from all across the country willing to join forces. Lewis had this to say while bidding adieu to Shedeur Sanders after his final college game:
“You left huge shoes to fill, but I promise to work to level @CUBuffsFootballl even better than I found it. Forever grateful. #TrustGod, #TrustTheProcess,” Lewis wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
It is unclear whether Lewis will get to start for Coach Prime immediately in the 2025 season. Liberty transfer QB Kaidon Salter is viewed as a potential replacement for Sanders, who committed to the program in Dec. 2024.
Regardless, Lewis has a long journey ahead to prove his mettle after flipping from USC back in November to begin a new chapter at Boulder, Colo.
Sanders Speaks Up After Alamo Bowl Loss
The postseason matchup turned out to be a disaster for Coach Prime and the team as they were unable to withstand BYU’s defense and special teams aggression.
It was a lopsided game that culminated in favor of the Cougars, 36-14. After the game, the Buffaloes QB mentioned his true feelings about representing Colorado and how it was time to think about the future.
“It felt great representing Colorado and bringing [the program] back to where it was in the past,” Sanders said, per the New York Times. “I feel like we were able to re-lay the foundation of the program, so now it’s possible for the other players coming in to pick up where we left off.”
Sanders is expected to be a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, with many rumors linking him to find a new home in New York or Las Vegas.
