You’ve probably heard the name Julian “JuJu” Lewis at least once in recent times. This young quarterback is incredibly talented and has been gaining major media attention since his high school days. If you didn’t know, Coach Prime even compared the 19-year-old to his son, Shedeur Sanders. Yes, the same Shedeur Sanders who was once projected to be a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft but surprisingly slipped to a fifth-round projection.
JuJu Lewis had already committed to Colorado last year, but now he’s officially joining the program after graduating high school early. His decision to reclassify and enroll ahead of schedule is a big move. It gives him the chance to start training with the team early, take part in spring practices, and learn the playbook well before the season begins.

JuJu Lewis Arrives at Colorado Early After Historic High School Career in Georgia
Julian Lewis was originally part of the 2026 recruiting class. But he made a bold move by reclassifying and signing with Colorado last December. After that, he returned to Carrollton, Georgia, to complete his course at Carrollton High School, finishing in just three years. Now, he’s already enrolled at Colorado and is taking summer classes to stay on track with his accelerated three-year college plan.
Interestingly, he now has a role model to follow. Former Colorado star Travis Hunter finished college in just three years and recently walked the stage at CU’s commencement. Just a day later, he was already taking part in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ rookie minicamp. That kind of work ethic and focus is exactly what Lewis hopes to replicate.
The rising quarterback had an outstanding high school football career at Carrollton. He threw for an incredible 11,010 yards, ranking seventh all-time in Georgia. He also scored 144 touchdown passes, placing him fifth in state history. Even more impressive, he’s the only player in Georgia to throw 48 or more touchdowns for three straight seasons.
It’s surprising that, despite being from Georgia, Lewis chose Colorado over the Georgia Bulldogs. We don’t know if Kirby Smart tried to recruit him hard, but Deion Sanders definitely didn’t give the Bulldogs a chance.
For a long time, Coach Prime has emphasized JuJu Lewis’ talent and how his skill set aligns with Colorado’s system. Moreover, following his impressive high school performances, Sanders has already started to see similarities between his son, Shedeur, and Julian. So, by no means was he going to let the 17-year-old go anywhere else.

Carrollton High School standout is considered the most important recruit Colorado has landed in over 20 years. We expect him to learn under starter Salter this fall before assuming the starting quarterback position in 2026. Adding another young quarterback to compete with Lewis could help push the team even further. Healthy competition always makes the whole group stronger.
