The Texas Longhorns started the season as one of the strongest teams this year. But that wasn’t the only or the biggest reason why they were so frequently discussed in the media. Arch Manning receiving his starting QB nod made it a special campaign from the beginning.
The 21-year-old hails from one of the most well-known families in football history. The Manning family has produced several legends of the game, and the young quarterback is expected to live up to those expectations.
While the attention on Manning is well deserved, it often takes away the limelight from his teammates and the program itself. Whether he performs well or contributes very little, Manning remains the focal point of all discussions surrounding the Longhorns.
Josh Pate has had enough of it now. On a recent episode of Josh Pate’s College Football Show, he criticized the trend while throwing subtle shade at Manning’s teammates.
“People have just talked about Texas like it’s tennis. It’s one person. They just say Arch. It’s like Oklahoma versus Arch,” Pate said. (From 4:40)
He stated that there are very capable players on the team and some incredible coaches as well. However, Pate believes that one has to take a good look to find them as they’re not as high up as Manning, despite their talent.
“Texas has other athletes like that,” Pate added. “The answers for Texas have been in the building. The players are in the building. It’s just you got to squeeze the sponge a little harder than you thought you were going to have to squeeze it to get the juice out.”
Manning went 21 of 27 for 166 yards and had one touchdown for the 23-6 win over the Sooners. That was a commendable performance, but he wasn’t the only one who had a good game.

Arch Manning Praised Tre Wisner
The Red River victory came at an important time for Texas. They had lost 21-29 against the Florida Gators last week and were desperate to get back on track. At halftime, it seemed like they were in for another heartbreak as the Sooners had a 6-3 lead.
But the Longhorns turned things around in the second half, outscoring them 20-0. Tre Wisner played a huge role in securing that victory for his team. carried the ball 22 times for 94 yards against the Sooners, registering a season high in rushing yards.
After the game, Manning praised his teammate and even credited him for the win.
“I’m proud of our team for coming together. Tre Wisner… It’s all about him. I’m just proud of our team,” Manning said, via ON3. “I wish we could play like this every week going forward. It’s going to be a fun season. I had a lot of fun. Our fans are great, this guy’s great. We’re having fun tonight.”
Wisner also caught the ball five times for 34 passing yards, making it a solid overall performance.
