Josh Pate Names the Perfect Fit for Michigan Job After Sherrone Moore Firing, And Its Not Kalen DeBoer

The Michigan Wolverines are on the hunt for a new head coach after Sherrone Moore’s firing following a supposed inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

Since then, a lot of rumors have been swirling around Moore’s replacement at Michigan, with the Alabama Crimson Tide head coach, Kalen DeBoer, headlining these rumors.

However, College Football Analyst Josh Pate, during an appearance on ESPN’s college football show, whilst talking about potential candidates for the Michigan-based side, named a replacement contrary to all the DeBoer rumors.

Josh Pate stated how he thinks Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham would be a right fit for the Wolverines, calling him tailor-made for a gig like this. Despite acknowledging how other candidates will be in contention for the Michigan job, he also reminded how Dillingham took ASU to the playoffs last year, something that might interest a lot of college football fans.

“I feel kind of strongly about this: that job looks tailor-made for a guy like Kenny Dillingham”, Pate stated on the ESPN College Football Show (0:39).

“I know other names will be thrown out, but I’m telling you, Kenny Dillingham—for most college football fans, he’s the guy that took Arizona State to the playoffs last year”, he explained (0:45)

Pate further batted for Dillingham, stating how he has the right amount of freshness as well as intensity for the Michigan gig while also referencing his past work with the Oregon Ducks under head coach Dan Lanning.

“Kenny Dillingham has the right mix to me of freshness, but also really, really intense. I’ve watched Kenny Dillingham operate in Dan Lanning’s building up at Oregon and fit in very seamlessly”, Pate further elaborated (1:00).

Pate also cited Dillingham’s success with the quarterback position at the teams he’s been with, something that the Michigan Wolverines have lacked lately.

Dillingham led the Sun Devils to an 11–3 record in 2024, subsequently winning the Big 12 title and securing a CFP berth in 2024. Meanwhile, the Arizona-based side ended this season with an overall 8-4 record.
