Former Georgia Bulldogs starting QB Carson Beck transferred to the Miami Hurricane this spring following an elbow injury. Now, eyes are on Gunner Stockton to take over.
However, many argue that Stockton has yet to prove himself, with doubts about whether he even ranks among the top ten QBs in the SEC. But others, like Josh Pate, see Stockton’s potential to lead the Bulldogs.
Josh Pate Supports Gunner Stockton As Georgia’s QB1
On a recent episode of Josh Pate’s College Football Show, the host dived into Georgia’s 2025 offense. Pate built his argument from an X post that claims the Bulldogs’ roster has exciting talents of Nate Frazier, London Humphreys, and Oscar Delp. Yet, they might not secure starting roles. Why? Seniority could outweigh talent as the deciding factor. Pate felt the post was indirectly targeting Stockton and took to his defense.
“I don’t think seniority is going to win out at quarterback. I think superiority is going to win out at quarterback. So, if I had to guess, I’d probably say Gunner Stockton is the guy Kirby Smart is going to roll with. I don’t think it’s because Gunner Stockton is fill-in-the-blank years old. I think he is the guy that gives them the best chance to win come fall.”
In the 2024 season, Stockton was Beck’s backup. He replaced Beck in the SEC Championship Game following an injury. He threw for 72 yards and an interception, helping Georgia pull off a 22–19 overtime victory.
With Beck side-lined for the rest of the season, Stockton started in the 2025 Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He threw 234 yards and a touchdown, but despite his efforts, the Bulldogs fell 23–10, ending their season.
