The Florida Gators have proven the unpredictability of college football, as the Gators upset a ninth-ranked Texas Longhorn team, shocking everyone with a 29-21 upset.
Host of the popular show, Josh Pate’s College Football Show, Josh Pate wasted no time discussing the upset and what it does for Florida. Pate made his stance on the subject very clear that Florida is still alive in the SEC Championship race.
“They’re (Florida Gators) playing a bunch of teams that are right in the thick of the SEC championship race. And before people just say they’re out of the SEC championship race, no, they’re not. They got one conference loss”, Pate explained (8:50).
Pate also highlighted that their losses came against USF and Miami. The first defeat, to USF, was largely viewed as inexplicable, and understandably so. However, it does not affect their conference record. As a result, they remain among the few teams with just one conference loss.
“Now, they got a much tougher conference slate still to go, and yesterday could be a one-off. All these things are possible, but I’m not in this camp that this just prolonged the inevitable. Uh, if Billy gets fired, he gets fired. But that’s not inevitable to me”, Pate further elaboarted (9:14).
The game against Texas saw Florida control the game from start to finish, as sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway appeared to become very comfortable. Lagway controlled the offense for Florida with 298 yards passing and two touchdowns.

Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III Sparks Florida’s Passing Game
The freshman duo of Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III gave Florida a vertical passing threat they desperately needed. Wilson had a scorching game as he won some contested grabs at key moments in the game.
Running back Jadan Baugh added to the bulk of the carries with 114 yards on 27 carries, and did his part to make Texas honest by managing the clock when it mattered.
They don’t have an easier schedule coming up soon for the Gators. They will play fifth-ranked Texas A&M next, and then they are looking at a tough stretch with Georgia, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.
Meanwhile, Head Coach Billy Napier’s buyout is a whopping $19.38 million, which is likely the reason Florida hasn’t acted on it despite their awful start to the season. If Florida continues their performances similar to what they displayed against the Longhorns, I don’t think Napier’s name will come up again this time.
