Former Texas A&M Aggies star and former NFL player Johnny Manziel recently trolled an up-and-coming college football star for his lackluster outing by comparing him. On Saturday, Oct. 4, the Texas Longhorns, led by the likes of third-year quarterback Arch Manning, were unsuccessful in their pursuit of a win against the Florida Gators in their week five matchup of the 2025 NFL season by eight points, 29-21, in the away game.
Manning subsequently netted 263 yards total, which garnered him a QB rate of 70.2, as the coach, Billy Napier’s Gators, were able to uncork a successful defensive game plan against him. This prompted Manziel to post the score of the game on his Instagram stories with a caption that calls on Manning’s predecessor, current Miami Dolphins rookie Quinn Ewers, to make a comeback to the Longhorns program.
“Where’s @quinn_ewers when you need him,” Manziel Captioned with an emoji.

Ewers just finished off his standout three-year tenure with coach Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns from 2022 to 2024, with his final campaign coming last year. He was one of the respected quarterbacks from Texas during his time, along with Manning right by him. Manning has since taken on the reins as the starting QB of the Longhorns, since Ewers was drafted into the NFL by the Dolphins with the 231st pick in the seventh round of the 2025 draft.
It seems as though Manziel is wishing more for Manning by comparing him to Ewers, as the Longhorns have since fallen into a 3-2 record in the early season so far. Manziel and the rest of the collegiate football scene will then look closely into Manning’s progression once again when Texas takes on the Oklahoma Sooners for week six on Saturday, Oct. 11, in the hopes of getting win No. 4.

Apart from Johnny Manziel reacting to the Texas Longhorns’ loss to the Florida Gators, he was also captured attending the regular season game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Vanderbilt Commodores in the former’s home pitch. In a video posted by @secnetwork on Instagram, Manziel is seen by the sidelines wearing a black jersey of Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia.
Unfortunately for Manziel, who seems to be in allegiance with the Commodores, Alabama defeated Vanderbilt by 16 points, 30-14, in their home stadium.
