Baltimore Ravens fans are holding their breath after Lamar Jackson’s unavailability in practice for the second straight day. With only 17 days remaining before the season kickoff, the Ravens are hoping that their star quarterback will return in time. But on Thursday, NFL insider Adam Schefter offered a grim outlook on Jackson, who is signed to a five-year, $260 million contract.
During a mid-practice accident, Jackson was stepped on, prompting X-rays. Head coach John Harbaugh assured the media: no broken bones, no serious issues. The team didn’t rule him out, but a lack of practice over two consecutive days is raising eyebrows.
During an appearance on NFL on ESPN, Schefter provided the latest injury update on Jackson.
“It sounds like it was a little bit scarier than the Ravens let on, because they did take X-rays,” Schefter said. “They did say there were no signs of any broken bones or any issues, and John Harbaugh admitted that his prayers were answered. So if it was anything that was nothing, he wouldn’t have to pray that Lamar Jackson’s X-rays would turn out the way they did. He didn’t practice today, second straight day, and look, they don’t have to have Lamar Jackson out there right now.”
While the injury hasn’t come at the right time, Schefter said the team management has still 17 days to prepare their starting quarterback. Because of this, Jackson will remain unavailable from practices, but that doesn’t mean he won’t suit up in Week 1.
“They need him out there for the start of the regular season,” Schefter added. “So I would imagine they’ll give that foot a couple of weeks to heal. It certainly sounds like the tests came back as well as they could’ve hoped, but they’re going to be smart with Lamar Jackson, they’re not going to stick him out there any sooner than he has to be.”

Lamar Jackson Injury Update Ahead of NFL Season Kickoff
Lamar Jackson has been the central figure in anything the Ravens do on offense. He is easily one of the best dual-threat QBs the league has ever seen. However, his unavailability is costing the Ravens a lot of preparation time.
The injury to Lamar’s foot took place during early Wednesday’s practice. While he stayed on the field for some time, he went to the locker room to get a look at it. The team opted not to practice him on Thursday.
Head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that X-rays revealed no damage or fractures, describing the situation as a “big relief.” He reassured the public that Jackson is “fine” and “going to be good.”
This should raise hopes among Baltimore fans, as many hope they will see Lamar set the field on fire in Week 1.
