‘I’m Ready To Give My All’ – QB Joey Aguilar Sends Powerful Yet Emotional Message to Fans After Tennessee Commitment

After entering the transfer portal, Joey Aguilar announced his commitment to Tennessee. This move came from Tennessee after their QB Nico Iamaleava transferred to UCLA earlier this month.

As per ESPN, Aguilar had $1.2 million remaining to be aid under the NIL terms he had at UCLA, which is the similar amount that the Vols would pay him.

Aguilar was in Westwood only for a few months after coming back to his home following his time at Appalachian State as a quarterback for two years.

Joey Aguilar Makes Emotional Tennessee Commitment

While this move was something that people saw coming, with the announcement of Aguilar, UT can now acknowledge the signing as the financial aid and scholarship papers have been processed.

Aguilar posted his announcement on Instagram with an emotional commitment.

“First, I want to thank God for guiding me through this journey and opening doors I could not have imagined. I’m excited to announce that I’m officially committed to the University of Tennessee! The journey hasn’t just been mine; it’s been shared with everyone who has supported me- thank you,” Aguilar said on Instagram.

It seems like Josh Heupel let out a big sigh of relief by getting rid of Nico Iamaleava. However, that does not mean that the seat on the pedestal would be a walk-in-the-park for Aguilar, especially after Heupel mentioned that the new QB has a lot of hustle.

But it seems like Aguilar is up for that challenge.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of the traditions, the fans, and the legacy of winning at tennessee. i’m ready to get to work, compete at the highest level and build something special with my teammates and coaches. i can’t wait to get to rocky top! I’m ready to give my all for Tennessee,” Aguilar said in his post.

Even though Tennessee didn’t plan it that way, the Vols pretty much got Aguilar on a quarterback swap. As things stand, he will join the likes of Jake Merklinger and true freshman George MacIntyre in a young quarterback room. He will undoubtedly be the one with most experience, but the least experience in the offense.

The 220-pounder QB is from Antioch, California. Out of high school, he did not receive a Division I scholarship. However, his time in junior college gave him the exposure to multiple FBS offers.

Heupel made it clear among the three QBs that none of them in the quarterback room has proven yet at the SEC level.
