The Ohio State Buckeyes clinched victory in the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 34-23 to claim their first title since 2014. However, FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt had a bone to pick, not with the game but with the calendar.
He expressed distress over the scheduling of the national championship game, as he believes that the marquee college football matchup deserves more than the Monday night slot.
Joel Klatt Takes a Shot at College Football Management
Joel Klatt didn’t hold back on his X account, where he voiced his frustration over the timing of college football’s biggest spectacle. Klatt argued that the national championship deserves a spotlight of its own. Instead, he felt the poor scheduling decision allowed the NFL Playoffs to overshadow the college football’s crowning moment.
This is supposed to be the pinnacle of our sport…The destination for every player, coach, and fan…yet somebody decided that playing the National Championship on a Monday night deep into the NFL playoffs was a good idea…the mismanagement of CFB has been egregious

For him, this scheduling blunder was a fumble the management could’ve easily avoided. In a later post on the same social platform, he advised the management to make Jan. 1 a special day for the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
We should be playing the National Championship on Jan. 1

No College Football Playoff National Championship Game Date Change, At Least For Five Years
The location sites and the dates of the college football title games through 2030 were released earlier this week and none of them support Joel Klatt’s idea of scheduling the game on Jan. 1 every year. The CFP has already confirmed that the next season’s title game will be hosted at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on January 19, 2026.
Brett McMurphy of Action Sports revealed the dates and sites from 2027-2030 for the College Football National Championship game. He also revealed that the CFB management has also decided to replace the location for the 2029 title game from Dallas to Tampa.
Breaking: Tampa replaces Dallas to host Jan. 22, 2029 @CFBPlayoff title game, sources said. Other future national title sites, as I reported in May, remain Las Vegas (Jan. 25, 2027), New Orleans (Jan. 24, 2028) & Miami (Jan. 21, 2030). Tampa also hosted 2017 title game. Dallas…

This won’t be the first time Tampa will host a big game like this. Raymond James Stadium hosted the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in 2017 when the Clemson Tigers defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide.
