Joel Klatt Serves Lane Kiffin Blunt Reality Check As Florida, LSU’s $90M Race Can Destroy Ole Miss Legacy

College Football commentator and analyst Joel Klatt didn’t hold back on his show when discussing Lane Kiffin’s future as the head Coach of the Ole Miss Rebels program.

Klatt, a former college football quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes, acknowledged how Lane Kiffin is not in an ideal situation as far as the Florida and LSU offers are considered, but he also stated that Lane Kiffin has a choice between staying at Ole Miss or choosing to go to a different program.

Klatt also highlighted how credible he is as a coach, and how it is one of the most important aspects as a coach, and Kiffin’s leaving Ole Miss would lose that.

“How does Lane Kiffin leave Ole Miss in the middle of a playoff run and have any credibility at his next place? I don’t think that he would. Your credibility is your currency as a coach”, He began on the Joel Klatt show (0:00)

“I would just say your credibility as a coach is everything. Your credibility is tied to your character”, Klatt further elaborated (1:36).

Klatt’s comments come on the backdrop of Florida and LSU pursuing to fill in their coaching vacancies after firing Billy Napier and Brian Kelly, respectively, earlier this season.

Florida has reportedly prepared a  $13 million per year contract for Kiffin, while LSU are reportedly prepared a seven-year $90 million offer with a $25 million roster cash component.

Joel Klatt Questions Lane Kiffin’s Commitment To Ole Miss

Klatt, on his show, also questioned Kiffin’s commitment to Ole Miss and how the players in his program have committed to his presence. He also affirmed that Kiffin’s prospective departure from Ole Miss will destroy the program.

“If you say yes to everything, how can you be committed to anything?”, Klatt asked (0:25).

“If he were to leave and then not coach the CFB, he is destroying the Ole Miss football team. Those kids committed to him as much as they did committed to Ole Miss”, Klatt further explained (1:05).

Klatt, whilst speaking about the modern college football era, also said that a coach’s fit is far more important than a brand logo, suggesting how being a part of a big-name program isn’t the play in college football anymore.

Ole Miss is currently sitting third in SEC standings with a 10-1 overall record so far this campaign.
