Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama had a rough start to the 2025 college football season after a disappointing 9-4 record last season.
While fans gave DeBoer the grace of the difficulty that came with replacing an icon like Nick Saban, they had more expectations this year. However, after the Crimson Tide team saw a 31-17 loss against FSU in Week 1, their patience started to shake.
While the next two games gave fans a ray of hope as Alabama secured a blowout 73-0 win against LA Monroe in Week 2 and a 38-14 win against Wisconsin in Week 3, analyst Joel Klatt doesn’t believe they have what it takes to beat Kirby Smart’s Georgia in week 5.
“If you look at the trend of how they’ve played on the road, even dating back to last year under Kalen DeBoer, it has not been good, and in fact, it’s been downright bad. It’s not that they’ve just lost games. It’s been the fashion in which they have lost those games. They’ve played a really poor game, uninspired against Vanderbilt, lost,” Klatt said.
“They looked totally uninspiring and got absolutely throttled by Florida State in a game in which the score wasn’t indicative of the dominance of the Seminoles. Do I think Alabama is all of a sudden, because they looked good against Wisconsin, going to go between the hedges and beat what I think is the SEC favorite in Georgia? No, I don’t think that’s going to happen,” he added.

Cam Newton Predicts Kalen DeBoer’s Situation if Alabama Loses to Georgia
Alabama is coming off a bye week and is set to face Georgia at Sanford Stadium on Saturday. The stakes are high for DeBoer, as many analysts have made it clear that he is walking on thin ice and losses can lead him to a hot seat in no time.
During his latest analysis on ‘First Take‘ on September 26, Cam Newton sent a stern message to DeBoer, saying that if James Franklin’s seat is hot, Alabama head coach’s seat will be in a volcano if he loses this one.
Newton reiterated that the level of expectation at the University of Alabama is unlike any other school in the nation because of the kind of standard Nick Saban created over so many years.
