Joe Milton’s 80-Yard Throws Turn Heads in NFL Offseason

Milton’s arm strength has become a major talking point around the NFL, drawing interest from teams such as the Giants, Browns, Steelers, and Raiders.

Reports indicate that several franchises are considering a trade for Milton, with some executives preferring to acquire him rather than draft a rookie quarterback this year. Scouts across the league have labeled Milton’s arm as the “strongest” in the NFL right now.

After a promising rookie season with New England—where he played well in the preseason and impressed in a season finale against Buffalo—the Patriots may now be open to trade discussions for their 25-year-old backup.

During his senior year at Tennessee, Milton showcased dual-threat ability, rushing for 299 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 7.9 yards per pass attempt.

In his lone NFL appearance last season, Milton completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown, while adding 16 rushing yards and another score. As trade talks intensify, Milton’s stock continues to climb.

Patriots Reportedly Exploring Joe Milton Trade, but No Deal in Sight Yet

The Patriots are considering trading Milton, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. With rookie Drake Maye set to be the starter and veteran Josh Dobbs signing a two-year, $8 million deal, the Patriots are open to moving Milton if they find the right fit.

“The Patriots have had discussions on trading QB Joe Milton III and would like to trade him to the right situation to continue his development in the NFL — should a deal get done,” Schultz reported on X. “New England loves Milton, but Drake Maye is their franchise.”

Milton was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Despite trade rumors, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport remains skeptical.

“I have not heard any traction on a Joe Milton trade,” he said on The Pat McAfee Show. “I will think about this like I always think about quarterbacks — yes, could the Patriots get value for Joe Milton? They really could. Like, they really could. He is cheap, he is promising, when he played, he looked good.”

Before joining the Patriots, Milton spent six seasons at Michigan and Tennessee, throwing for 2,813 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2023.
