Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy might have just had the best week of his life. Days after he led the Vikings to a 27-24 comeback victory against Caleb Williams’ Chicago Bears, he became a father as his fiancée, Katya Kuropas, gave birth to their son, Rome Micah McCarthy.
The couple shared the exciting news on Instagram on Friday, as Katya shared photos of the newborn from the hospital. In one image, the quarterback can be seen cradling his son in his arms. Katya wrote in the caption:
“Welcome to the world Rome Micah McCarthy ✨The sweetest, most perfect gift from God!! We are so unbelievably blessed to be your parents💙 8.7lbs 21in.”

In the comments section, 22-year-old McCarthy shared his gratitude to God and marked his love for Katya.
“God is GREAT!” McCarthy wrote, adding. “& so are you my love.”
Though he missed practice sessions this week, the second-year quarterback is expected to take charge under center when they face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football.

Katya Kuropas and JJ McCarthy Announced Pregnancy in May
JJ McCarthy and Katya announced their pregnancy publicly in May, sharing that they are expecting a baby boy in September. Katya shared their pregnancy photoshoot as she wrote in the caption:
“The best surprises come when you least expect them. Our sweet baby boy is arriving in September and we couldn’t be happier🩵🍼.”

The couple first met in high school at Nazareth Academy. When McCarthy was a sophomore, the couple started dating.
However, due to the COVID-19 disruptions in football activities, McCarthy transferred to IMG Academy in Florida for his senior year. He joined Michigan to play college football, where he went on to win the national championship. Katya used to be a regular spectator at his games.
In Oct. 2023, the couple celebrated their fifth anniversary, which means that next month, they will celebrate seven years of togetherness.
In Jan. 2024, McCarthy popped the question to Katya, with the proposal coming right after Michigan’s national championship win.
