Jihaad Campbell’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

Jihaad Campbell has the skillset to be a disruptive defender who can impact the game in all phases. At 6’2″, 235 pounds, with near-33″ arms, he has the size and length to pace his counterparts, and at that size, he brings truly uncommon explosive capacity, long-strider speed, and short-area quickness.

A former EDGE recruit, Campbell brings incredible pass-rush upside from the second level — not only with his burst, bend, and closing speed, but also with his understanding of angles and hand usage.

Meanwhile, in coverage, he can drop into intermediate and deep zones with keen eyes, or man up big-slot targets like a defensive back. He still needs to improve his play strength and take-on technique in the running game, and his torn labrum injury will impact his availability early in 2025. That said, if long-term vision is your priority, Campbell can be a total X-factor down the line.

    Landon Jackson’s NFL Draft Projection

In CSN’s 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft from April 12, Campbell landed in Round 1 with the 19th overall pick. James Fragoza has this to say:

After Devin White fell short in Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers might hesitate to drop another first-round pick on a linebacker—but I’m willing to take the chance. Jihaad Campbell’s ability to rush the passer adds a fresh dimension to his skill set, boosting him up the 2025 NFL Draft LB rankings.

And in CSN’s recent 3-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Brian Burden had this to say about Campbell’s selection to the Los Angeles Chargers in Round 1 with the 22nd pick:

Jihaad Campbell was another first-team All-SEC selection, recording 117 tackles, including 12 for loss, and five sacks for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Like many recent great Alabama linebackers, Campbell can make plays at all three levels, inside the box, as a blitzer, and in coverage. He has no deficiencies, and the 6’3″, 235-pounder’s size and speed will hold up during the long NFL season.

Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh wants aggressive dogs in his linebacker corps. He already has a couple, including leading tackler Daiyan Henley and sensational 12th-year vet Khalil Mack. He could have another one here with Campbell.
