Jermaine Bishop Jr., a top-tier athlete from the 2026 class, announced his commitment to the Texas Longhorns program in the early hours of yesterday. He is a 4-star prospect from Willis High School in Texas and chose the Longhorns over a stacked list of contenders, USC, Texas A&M, and Florida.
On3 ranks the 5’11” 155-pound athlete as the No. 5 athlete in the class of 2026 and the No. 10 overall player in Texas.
A 2-Way Star With Endless Potential
As a junior, he racked up 83 receptions for 1,565 yards and 18 touchdowns on offense, which justified his offensive play. On defense, he locked down opponents as a cornerback, snagging three interceptions and forcing two fumbles.

Those numbers build on an already impressive sophomore campaign, where he tallied 17 touchdown receptions and five interceptions.
He’s got the speed and hands to be a game-changer at receiver, but his instincts and physicality on defense suggest he could thrive as a cornerback at the next level. Texas plans to utilize him in the secondary, where his skills align with their defensive scheme. But one shouldn’t be surprised if the Longhorns find ways to get him the ball on offense, too.
Bishop connection to the program started early, but it solidified during his visit to Austin for a Junior Day event in January this year.
The Longhorns made a strong impression, showcasing their vision for his future and how he fits into the program’s plan. Needless to say, Texas has been on a recruiting roll lately, adding talent at a rapid pace under Steve Sarkisian’s leadership.
USC, Florida, and Texas A&M put up a strong fight, though. Florida offered the allure of the SEC and a chance to play under Billy Napier, while Texas A&M tried to keep Bishop closer to home with the promise of early playing time.
USC, led by Lincoln Riley, pitched their high-powered offense and NFL pipeline.
Reports even stated that he had an official visit scheduled with Houston, but Texas ultimately won his heart, of course, and it was evident that Texas’s recruiting pitch was the most compelling, and he wasted no time making it happen.
What’s Next for Jermaine Bishop Jr.?
Now that his commitment is locked in, he can focus on his senior season at Willis High School, where he’s expected to put up even bigger numbers. He’s already shown he can dominate at the high school level, but another strong year could cement his status as a 5-star prospect.
