Analyst Jeremy Fowler Predicts Giants Could Turn to Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward Following Matthew Stafford Slip

The New York Giants have been actively searching for their next franchise quarterback, and according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, their efforts have led them to two intriguing draft prospects—Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward.

After missing out on Matthew Stafford, who remained with the Los Angeles Rams despite significant interest from the Giants, New York now appears set on drafting a young signal-caller.

Could Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward Be the Giants’ Answer After Stafford Miss?

Fowler reported that the Giants were prepared to put together a major financial package for Stafford. However, with that plan falling through, the team is now looking toward the draft, where they hold the No. 3 overall pick.

Fowler suggested that New York could either stay at No. 3 to select Sanders or Ward, or even attempt to trade up to No. 2, depending on how the draft board unfolds.

“If they strike out on Stafford, they’re going to go draft. They’re going to go heavy there with that third pick—maybe try to trade up,” Fowler said.

With Tennessee reportedly gaining momentum toward selecting Cam Ward at No. 2, the Giants may have to act aggressively if they want to land their preferred choice.

Will New York Select Shedeur Sanders?

Sanders, son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, has been a polarizing prospect throughout the pre-draft process. His ability to read defences and his high football IQ have impressed NFL teams, including the Cleveland Browns, who are rumored to have interest.

“I do know there’s some love there for Shedeur Sanders and sort of his computer brain to be able to feel out the game mentally. They have some respect for what he can do in that area—maybe more than some teams.”

The Giants, who have struggled with consistency at quarterback in recent years, could see Sanders as a long-term solution if they feel he is worth the No. 3 pick.

On the other hand, Cam Ward has gained momentum in the draft process, with Tennessee reportedly feeling comfortable selecting him at No. 2 overall. Ward’s athleticism and playmaking ability have drawn comparisons to some of the league’s top dual-threat quarterbacks.

If Tennessee locks in on Ward, the Giants could pivot to Sanders—or they may even explore a trade to jump ahead of the Titans.

With just weeks remaining before the 2025 NFL Draft, the Giants are weighing their options carefully. Whether they stay at No. 3, trade up, or consider a veteran like Russell Wilson in free agency, the franchise is set for a major quarterback decision that will shape its future.

As the draft nears, all eyes will be on whether the Giants make a move for Sanders or Ward—or if they surprise everyone with a different pick entirely.
