For this year’s Heisman trophy race, there is one running back in a group of four that includes three quarterbacks, and that is Jeremiyah Love. Usually, the trophy is given to quarterbacks, but sometimes, players in other positions win it too, and more often than not, running backs tend to win it if the QB does not.
One of the most notable running backs to ever win the Heisman is Derrick Henry, who won it back in 2015. He is still playing football, for the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens, but his college days in Alabama were legendary. How will Jeremiyah Love stack up to him?

Does Jeremiyah Love’s Stats Stack Up To Heisman Winner Derrick Henry?
Jeremiyah Love Stats
Jeremiyah Love has had a stellar season over at Notre Dame, with his best season being the 2025 season. This year, he has had 1,372 rushing yards on 199 carries, averaging 6.9 yards per carry, and he has so far not fumbled the ball yet throughout his college career. He has also scored 18 rushing touchdowns this season.
He is decent at receiving too, having eight receptions on 77 receiving yards, scoring one touchdown and averaging 9.6 yards per reception, so he has shown that he could also be flexible and catch the ball to score, though he is clearly more at home in the rushing game.
Derrick Henry Stats
Back in college, Derrick Henry was unstoppable, with him winning the Heisman during the 2015 season, which is also his best season. He won it as a junior, and right now, Love is a junior as well, which means the Notre Dame star has plenty to live up to.
In 2015, Henry had 2,219 rushing yards in 395 carries, averaging 5.6 yards per carry and scoring 28 touchdowns for the Crimson Tide. While Love had a better yards per carry average, Henry just had more carries, setting the SEC single-season rushing record with 1,986 yards and also tying the SEC record for rushing touchdowns with 23.
Bottomline
Notre Dame’s season is now over, as the team chose not to play in any bowl game after getting eliminated from the CFP. This means that Love cannot outdo those stats, but he can still also win the Heisman, just like Henry.
Unlike Love, Henry had the benefit of playing in the post-season, with him helping lead Alabama to the No. 1 seed before getting eliminated by eventual winner Ohio State. This might beg the question of how Love’s stats would have looked if Notre Dame played in a bowl game or qualified in the CFP.
