Notre Dame Fighting Irish Jeremiyah Love recently opened up on his Mount Rushmore of running backs in football history. Love himself is one of the top running backs going around in college football and is considered a top prospect in the 2026 NFL draft.
During his conversation on CBS Sports, Love mentioned several current names like Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, but held back the top spot for Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs. He also mentioned that former NFL MVP Barry Sanders also deserves a spot on his Mount Rushmore.
“As of right now, I would say my top running backs are Jameer Gibbs, probably my number one right now,” Love said. “I would say Saquon Barkley. These are guys who are playing right now. I would also say McCaffrey.
“Back in the day, my dad used to make me watch Barry Sanders highlights. I loved watching him, even though I didn’t watch much football. When I did, growing up, his highlights were very entertaining. So, I love Barry Sanders. But the guys today — you’ve got Jameer Gibbs, Saquon, Christian McCaffrey, and a couple of guys who are all right. Barry belongs on Mount Rushmore.”

Jahmyr Gibbs is in the middle of a great season, with 1,019 rushing yards in 12 games and 10 rushing TDs so far. Meanwhile, Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards last season, registering among the top single-season totals in league history. On the other hand, McAffrey is one of the most versatile running backs to ever take the field, as he is among the rare league of backs who have eclipsed both 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in a season.

Jeremiyah Love Claims Notre Dame Single-Season TD Record
Jeremiyah Love logged his 21st touchdown of the season in the 49-20 win over Stanford Cardinal. With this, he set a new Notre Dame record, surpassing Jerome Bettis’ 1991 mark.
The moment happened in the second half, where he contributed 66 yards rushing and the historic 21st TD of the season.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Love rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns in just eight carries against Syracuse.
His incredible season is pushing his name into the Heisman conversation.
