Jeremiah Smith hasn’t forgotten the Ohio State Buckeyes’ loss to the Michigan Wolverines from last season. The Instagram account ‘365sportsyoutube’ shared Smith’s comments from a recent interview with The Athletic regarding his mindset heading into the 2025 NCAA college football season.
Smith didn’t hold back while talking about his disdain for the Wolverines. He vowed not to lose to Michigan over the next two years, saying:
“I’m not a sore loser, but I hate losing, and losing to that team up north was pretty crazy. In the end, I think it really helped us play the way we did in the playoffs. But I didn’t want to go to Ohio State and lose to that team up north. I just hate them. Just something about them.”
“I just hate them. Just something about them. For the next two years, I promise you, I will not lose to them. I can’t lose to them in the next two years,” Smith added.

The Michigan Wolverines recorded a major upset in their last meeting with the Ohio State Buckeyes, pulling off a 13-10 victory in Columbus on Nov. 30, 2024. The Wolverines entered the contest as massive underdogs, as they were without star players Will Johnson and Colston Loveland.
However, their absence didn’t matter, with Michigan extending its winning streak against the Buckeyes to four games. The loss proved costly for Ohio State, knocking them out of the Big Ten Championship Game. The Buckeyes bounced back after that defeat, though, ending their season with four consecutive victories to claim their first national championship since 2014.
Smith is on a mission to win the championship once more for Ohio State. He revealed to The Silver Bulletin that he has bulked up ahead of his sophomore season.
Jeremiah Smith:
“I’m at 225 pounds now. I was at 205 or 208 when I got to OSU. Body fat, I think I’m second lowest on the team. I just did 20 reps of 225 pounds on the bench and ran 22 miles per hour in a game.”

Smith showed his offensive talent in the title game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He caught five passes for 88 yards and a touchdown in Ohio State’s 34-23 win in January. He sealed the victory for the Buckeyes, hauling in a 56-yard grab on 3rd and 11 late in the fourth quarter that quelled the Fighting Irish’s uprising.
How Jeremiah Smith Fared for Ohio State in the Loss to Michigan Last Season
The Ohio State Buckeyes failed to get their offense going during their loss to the Michigan Wolverines last season. They were shut out in the second half of that 13-10 defeat, the first time that it happened to them at home in 13 years.
Jeremiah Smith, who caught a 10-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, was a non-factor in the second half. He caught only one pass for three yards during that period. Smith finished the game with 35 receiving yards.
