College football analysts are already predicting that Smith will be among the top picks in an upcoming NFL draft. Some analysts believe he could sign a contract for $200 million by 2030. Those projections are guess estimates on the assumption that he stays on his current trajectory throughout the rest of his college career.

Smith is already a star player, as he appears on various preseason award watch lists. It should come as no surprise to see Smith on watch lists for honors like the Heisman Trophy, Biletnikoff Award, and Walter Camp Player of the Year, among early favorites for the 2025 season.

Jeremiah Smith’s Record-Breaking Journey Fuels Fan Obsession

Enthusiasm over Smith is the result of his tremendous freshman season at Ohio State. He recorded 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns, which were program records for freshmen on all three statistics. Those numbers did not just correlate with a freshman’s talent; they were not far from many of the best seasons at Ohio State for a receiver.

He really stood out in the clutch moments of the Buckeyes’ season, gaining an Offensive MVP award in the Rose Bowl when the Buckeyes blew out Oregon in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals, and Smith has officially become clutch in nothing but big plays.

Smith was winning awards on awards towards the end of his freshman season, with both the Richter-Howard Wide Receiver of the Year award and Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year award from the Big Ten Conference. Not only were Smith’s two awards significant, but it was impressive that he was the only freshman across the board who was shown so much respect by the Big Ten.
