The Ohio State Buckeyes face uncertainty in their receiving room, with players like Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate doubtful for the upcoming game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
The team is unbeaten so far this season and Rutgers is not the team that could prove to be much of a challenge for defending champions. Let’s take a look if Smith and Tate will turn up for the game.

Is Jeremiah Smith Playing Today vs. Rutgers?
According to Pete Thamel, Jeremiah Smith is not expected to suit up against Rutgers as he deals with a lower-body injury.
In his last game, he played only in the first half before clutching his right leg. Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said he is working hard to get back on the field.
In 2025, Smith leads all receivers with 69 receptions for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Is Carnell Tate Playing Today vs. Rutgers?
Like Smith, even Carnell Tate will miss out on the matchup against Rutgers. This will mark his third straight game that he missed, as he also didn’t feature in the encounters against Purdue and UCLA. Day said the same for Tate as he did for Smith. It appears the head coach wants to keep it to himself when both of his star receivers will return.
Day confirmed that both players are “in great spirits,” that “the medical staff is working hard,” and the team will “take it day-to-day and see how they come in each day.”
In 2025, Tate is just behind Smith with 39 receptions for 711 yards and seven touchdowns.
Through the first 10 games, Ohio State’s offense has averaged around averages around 431.4 total yards per game, including 151.7 rushing yards per game and 279.7 passing yards per game.
Talking about the encounter against Rutgers, Day is aware of his opponent, saying:
“They always have a plan of how they want to attack you … they play complementary football. … They’re coming off of a win and a bye week, so we’ve got to be on our game.”
It remains to be seen if Ohio State comes one win closer to stay unbeaten in the regular season.
