Jemele Hill has brought race into the discussion while discussing the possibility of Sherrone Moore getting another job in college football. Michigan fired Moore on Dec. 10 after he was found to have had an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.
According to Hill, unlike white male coaches, black male coaches don’t get a second chance after being surrounded by scandals. She cited the examples of Mel Tucker and Ime Udoka, both of whom are black and have been unable to find jobs following their scandals. Meanwhile, she pointed out that the likes of white male coaches, including Hugh Freeze, Bobby Petrino, Rick Pitino, Mike Price, and others, went on to secure a second chance despite being surrounded by scandals.
“Though I think Sherrone Moore is a cornball, before we start painting his firing, Mel Tucker’s and Ime Udoka’s as some kind of indictment of black male coaches, let me remind you of the following names: Hugh Freeze, Bobby Petrino, Rick Pitino, Mike Price, among others,” she wrote on Thursday.
“The difference is in who gets a second chance to be a head coach. And you can guess who usually gets another chance.”
However, Moore’s case is entirely different. The former Michigan head coach is being accused of invading the home of the staffer and threatening to inflict self-harm. One day after being fired, it was revealed that he was detained by the police and was arraigned in court. He has posted a bail of $25,000.
What Charges Sherrone Moore Is Facing?
Sherrone Moore was arraigned in court earlier this week and he faces charges of three offenses, including felony third-degree home invasion, misdemeanor stalking and misdemeanor breaking and entering.
According to reports, after his relationship with the Michigan staffer ended, Moore invaded her home with butter knives and scissors and threatened self-harm. A 911 call was made and while Moore had already left home when the officers arrived, he was eventually located and taken into custody.
As per the latest bond posted, Moore will be required to wear a GPS monitoring device at all times, stay away from the victim and undergo a mental evaluation. He is next scheduled to appear in front of a judge on Jan. 22.
