The Michigan Wolverines fired head coach Sherrone Moore on December 10, and ever since, they have been trying to find their next head coach. The Michigan athletic department is hoping to sign a new head coach before December 31, ahead of the NCAA transfer portal opening on January 2, so that the new head coach can interact with transfers and recruits before the transfer portal opens.
Louisville head coach Jeff Bohm is emerging as a strong candidate for the job, alongside others like Jedd Fisch and Eli Drinkwitz. According to Michigan insider Sam Webb of 247 Sports, Bohm and Michigan have talked on Monday and a decision could soon come after the Citrus Bowl on Wednesday.
“I think you have to look at Jeff Brohm. Jeff Brohm from Louisville,he’s been a guy they’ve been vetting very thoroughly from the very beginning,” Webb said. “The search firm reached out to him, or at least reached out to his agent, already, and then they made direct contact yesterday.
“If you see things escalate quite rapidly here over the next couple of days, I think you could see Jeff Brohm shoot to the top of the list. If things don’t escalate rapidly in the next couple of days, I think you could really see that fizzle. And then you start to ask, ‘Okay, who else could really emerge?’”
Michigan insider Sam Webb of 247 Sports says Jeff Brohm is Michigans top choice as of now. Says the two sides spoke yesterday and we should have an answer after tomorrow’s bowl game. https://t.co/mxIoR7ZIER pic.twitter.com/4e3mOyuTN8

Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt named Kalen DeBoer as a potential candidate for Michigan, but since Alabama won the opening round of the College Football Playoff, that option no longer remains. As such, Klatt also believes Bohm is a strong candidate given the circumstances.

Biff Poggi Wants To Be Considered For Michigan Job
After Michigan fired Sherrone Moore, they replaced him with interim head coach Biff Poggi. The interim head coach recently shared the sentiments inside the Michigan locker room as student-athletes feel betrayed by Moore’s actions. He accused the program of malfunctioning over the last five years and assured that the athletic director is doing everything in his power for the betterment of the program.
At the same time, Poggi also confirmed that he wants the permanent head coaching job and used a recent press conference to make his case to athletic director Warde Manuel. He cited his familiarity with the program and his desire to “fix it.”
“I’m being considered. I’ve had multiple interviews, multiple conversations,” Poggi told reporters on Monday. “Nobody knows what’s going to happen. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I just appreciate being considered, and we’ll see what happens.”
It remains to be seen if Michigan finds Poggi a suitable candidate or do they go shopping outside and bring someone like Bohm.
