Jaxson Dart Isn’t Just a Lane Kiffin Scheme QB—Analyst Compares Him to Josh Allen

Todd McShay, one of college football’s best analysts, spoke about Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart on a recent episode of his podcast, “The McShay Show.” In his discussion, McShay compared Dart to one of the NFL’s great quarterbacks around today, Josh Allen.

On the recent episode of “The McShay Show,” Todd discussed some of the best quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft class and offered high praise for Ole Miss’s star, Dart. McShay stated that the Rebels star has “some Josh Allen in his game.”

Todd McShay Compares Jaxson Dart to Josh Allen

The draft expert says that the similarities aren’t in their physical stature. Dart, who stands at 6-foot-2, lacks Allen’s size and strength. However, there is some overlap when you look at how both Dart and Allen play while in the pocket, whether their rushing ability or how they handle defensive pressure.

“Why I’m saying that is there’s this like suddenness when the pressure’s coming—and it jumped out over and over on tape—the pressure’s coming [and] it’s not ‘oh s–t,'” McShay said. “… There’s no sense of panic ever in his game, except those three terrible plays at the end of the year.”

Dart is coming off his best season yet at the collegiate level. Dart threw for 4,279 yards and picked up 29 touchdowns before declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. He also led the FBS in passer rating with 180.7. On top of his impressive arm, Dart also ran for 495 yards and just three touchdowns.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke to an NFC executive about Lane Kiffin’s offense and what a “mess” it was for quarterbacks looking to move to the next level. This would make sense why Ole Miss isn’t known for their quarterbacks coming out of college.

Fowler added that Dart looked “uncomfortable calling plays in the huddle and taking snaps under center” during the Senior Bowl.

The well-known passer is the No. 58 overall prospect and fourth-ranked quarterback on Bleacher Report’s 2025 Big Board. Nevertheless, McShay isn’t the only one who sees some scant potential in the first-team All-SEC honoree, should he be able to put it all together.

With a limited number of good quarterbacks available in this year’s NFL Draft, Dart could very possibly sneak into the first round and become the third quarterback drafted behind Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.
