The Ole Miss Rebels are currently locked in a battle with the Georgia Bulldogs but potential disaster struck early on Saturday. After throwing an interception early in the first quarter, it was shown the star QB Jaxson Dart had limped to the sidelines before entering the medical tent.
Now, with their season in the balance, Dart exited the field, hobbling with an apparent left ankle injury.
What Happened to Jaxson Dart?
Though not official, Dart was seen hobbling off the field, slamming his helmet down in frustration, and then ultimately leaving the field to the locker room with over 13:00 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The injury appeared to happen an interception on the third play of the game when he was brought down awkwardly by two Georgia defenders. Following the interception, the replay angles were clear to show a hobbled Dart frustrated with his interception, but also it appeared that he was unable to plant on his forward foot on the throw.
He then left the field, clearly in a good amount of pain.

The Bulldogs converted the turnover into seven points, but it was clear the focus of the Ole Miss team was on their star quarterback. It was reported that he couldn’t put any weight on his left leg as he remained in the locker room on the Rebels’ next possession.
Freshman QB Austin Simmons replaced Dart as he remained in the locker room, per the broadcast. Simmons led a touchdown drive before Dart ultimately replaced him.
Following a touchdown drive by Simmons, Dart returned to the field and was seen warming up on the sidelines. He re-entered the game
“You can tell he’s in pain, but he patted (Austin) Simmons on the back and said ‘good job, but I got this,'” the broadcast said about Dart’s return.
He immediately completed multiple passes on his return to the field, but Dart looked as if he was in pain from the pocket.
Prior to the game, Simmons had thrown just 24 attempts in his career for 184 yards and two touchdowns, likely playing into why Dart re-entered the lineup in his favor despite his promising start.
CFN will continue to monitor and update readers of Dart’s status for Ole Miss.
