College football commentator Jason Whitlock is having a hard time believing Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders’ latest admission about a player who left his program two years ago. After Coach Prime took over the Buffaloes in 2022, he ordered a major reshuffle, and several existing players, including the program’s 2022 leading wide receiver, Jordyn Tyson, also entered the transfer portal. He went to Arizona State Sun Devils through the portal.
On Tuesday, Sanders told reporters that following the 42-17 loss against the Sun Devils, Tyson came into his office to apologize for entering the transfer portal after Sanders’ arrival in Boulder.
“Jordyn Tyson found his way into my dressing room downstairs at the conclusion of the game,” Sanders said. “Jordyn Tyson came in there to say, ‘Coach, I apologize.’ I said, ‘Young man, let me tell you something. I love you. I appreciate you. I pray to God that you’re a top-10 pick, top-five pick because you got it. You don’t have to apologize to me. You’re young, man. I was young. I was making some of the same mistakes when I was your age. I’m just thankful that you got on the right course.'”
However, Whitlock is not taking Sanders at his word. He subtly accused the head coach of lying, as he is unable to believe why the receiver would regret his decision after becoming an All-American with ASU.
“An amazing story. Coach Prime arrived and told existing players to hit the transfer portal because he was bringing high-end luggage. Player leaves, turns into an All-American at ASU, and apologizes to Coach Prime for following his advice. Amazing,” Whitlock wrote on X.

Deion Sanders Moved By Jordyn Tyson’s Admission
Jordyn Tyson made his return at Folsom Field after missing two games due to a hamstring injury. He showed his athleticism by catching two passes for 61 yards against the Buffs.
Before Tyson entered the transfer portal in April 2023, he spent four months with Coach Prime in Boulder. As such, it might have been difficult for the coach to see the program’s leading wide receiver leave when he just arrived there. However, with Tyson coming clean about his decision, Sanders was moved.
“It’s what it’s all about. That moment,” Sanders said. “Even though we’re getting our butts kicked and I’m sitting up there going through the game in my head, and he walks in full uniform and says that, you got to understand, that cleans up a lot of the mess that is going on, that’s transpiring right now. But he got it. I just pray that the multitude in our locker room gets it, because he got it before it was too late.
“That moment right there, that’s all us coaches coach for, that moment. I’m praying for him. I’m wishing him the best, and I know he’s going to do what he does because he’s a freak of an athlete.”
Tyson’s decision to leave turned out to be good, actually. He registered over 1,100 receiving yards last season with Arizona State, and so far this season, he has recorded 689 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He might very well be picked in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
