Jalon Walker’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

Jalon Walker’s projection to the NFL is extremely unique. He has the build and athletic tools of an inside linebacker but found success at Georgia by being deployed primarily as a blitzing pass rusher and attacking SAM-backer.

A prospect as athletic as Walker will likely find a successful role in the NFL, but there are debates surrounding what the best role for him is. Walker doesn’t have high-end gap instincts or coverage ability, nor does he have the size to consistently set the edge and encumber duo blocks.

That said, he’s an explosive QB spy and pursuit threat, a capable pull slabber, and a wide-alignment menace with a sound speed-to-power profile. In the right defensive system with a creative, forward-thinking defensive coordinator, Walker can flourish.

    Jalon Walker’s NFL Draft Projection

In CSN’s 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft from April 12, Walker landed in Round 1 with the 26th overall pick. James Fragoza has this to say:

Why did the Rams let Ernest Jones slip away? Who knows, but they certainly landed on Omar Speights. Still, the defense could use an extra jolt from the second level—and Walker brings that in spades. His efficient pass-rush versatility might just be the spark to elevate the entire unit.

And in CSN’s recent 3-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Brian Burden had this to say about Walker’s selection to the Carolina Panthers in Round 1 with the eighth pick:

Jalon Walker, the 2024 Dick Butkus Award winner, was everywhere for the Georgia Bulldogs last fall, amassing 60 tackles, including 11 for loss, and 6.5 sacks. The 6’1″, 243-pounder is explosive and quick and offers possibilities both as a pass rusher and in coverage.

The Carolina Panthers need a playmaker in the middle of their defense, one who kind of fits the mold of a Luke Kuechly. Walker is a playmaker who’s gotten the job done against the best offenses in the country. His strong hands and elite first-snap moves make him an asset from Day 1.
