Jalon Daniels Injury Report: Kansas Star Has Knee Procedure, Spring Status in Doubt

The latest Jalon Daniels injury update will be worrisome to Kansas Jayhawks fans as the team prepares for the 2025 Big 12 season.

Jalon Daniels, the veteran quarterback for the Kansas Jayhawks, recently underwent a knee procedure that will sideline him for much of spring practice. The team described the surgery as minor, but it raises concerns about his durability heading into his final collegiate season.

This marks the second consecutive year Daniels has had limited spring participation due to injury.

Jalon Daniels’ Injury History and Current Status

Kansas announced that Daniels had a minor knee surgery and will be a limited participant when spring practices begin on March 2. The Lawndale, California native has dealt with a series of injuries throughout his college career, including a shoulder injury in 2022 that cost him four games and a back injury in 2023 that sidelined him for ten.

Despite these setbacks, Daniels has been a key player for the Jayhawks, starting 33 games over his career. He played a full 2024 season, throwing for 2,454 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while adding 447 rushing yards and six scores on the ground.

Although his performance was inconsistent early in the season, he finished strong by leading Kansas to wins over ranked opponents Iowa State, BYU, and Colorado. His 12 interceptions tied for the most in the Big 12 last season.

Daniels’ decision to return for a sixth season in 2025 is pivotal for both his NFL aspirations and the Jayhawks’ success. Kansas has bolstered its receiving corps through the transfer portal, adding Cam Pickett, Levi Wentz, Emmanuel Henderson Jr., and tight end Keyan Burnett.

These additions will be crucial, as the team lost key receivers Luke Grimm, Quentin Skinner, and Lawrence Arnold to graduation.

What Could Jalon Daniels’ Injury Mean for Kansas?

Daniels’ injury adds uncertainty to Kansas’ upcoming season. While his knee procedure is considered minor, any missed practice time could impact his chemistry with the new receiving group.

Meanwhile, in-state rival Kansas State Wildcats has made changes of their own, promoting Matt Wells to offensive coordinator. Wells, who previously served as quarterbacks coach, played a key role in developing sophomore Avery Johnson.
