Jahdae Barron Labeled “Best Pure DB” After NFL Combine

Jahdae Barron’s impressive NFL combine performance and standout skills make him one of the top defensive back prospects in this draft.

Texas’ Jahdae Barron impressed viewers and scouts with his NFL combine performance. He ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash, a 1.5-second 10-yard split, recorded a 35-inch vertical jump, and achieved a 10’3″ broad jump.

Since then, his name has been gaining significant attention, with many suggesting he could be the best defensive back in this draft.

The Unique Qualities That Make Jahdae Barron a Top DB Prospect

Barron was already a top prospect after his impressive final season with the Longhorns, and his combine performance only added fuel to the fire. He finished with 46 solo tackles, five interceptions, and 11 pass deflections. To cap off his impressive year, the Longhorns made it to the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs, where they lost to Ohio State 28-14.

NFL analyst Todd McShay couldn’t stop praising Barron, saying, “I’m planting my flag right now: Jahdae Barron is the best pure defensive back in this class. I’ve got him ranked no. 2 behind two-way star Travis Hunter.”

McShay pointed out Barron’s versatility on the field, saying, “One thing that jumps out from Barron’s tape is how he plays all over the field: He lined up outside at cornerback a lot more this past season, but he also thrives at nickel, at deep free safety, and even at linebacker depth in the middle of the field.”

McShay also talked about Barron’s skills in coverage, saying, “He also plays more man coverage than he gets credit for, but he’s clearly best-suited in a zone-heavy role in the NFL.”

McShay didn’t stop there and praised Barron’s ability to break up passes, saying, “But of all the great aspects of Barron’s game I’ve seen watching his tape, my favorite is his ability to detach the ball from a receiver. He’s one of the best I’ve ever seen doing it. If he gets in there on time or even a quarter-count late, he uses his body control and reflexes to dislodge the ball before the receiver even knows what’s happened.”

Barron’s combine performance and outstanding skills have certainly made him one of the most talked-about defensive backs in this draft. With his ability to guard both slot receivers and wide receivers, his standout coverage skills, and his knack for forcing turnovers, Barron has solidified his place as a top prospect.
