Liam Coen has gotten his hands on a Heisman-winning cornerback and wide receiver in Travis Hunter. To make him even more effective, the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach may have to get some of Deion Sanders’ tactics from his Colorado days.
Before he became the NFL’s 2025 No. 2 overall pick, Travis Hunter had a very effective combination with then-Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders over at Boulder, with Sanders coaching him. This led him to become the two-way threat that he is today.
At the Jaguars training camp, Coen confirmed his plans for Hunter, and it sounded familiar to something Coach Prime might draw up.
“Yeah, he will probably [line up at both positions during the same day] within the first six practices or so…You want to give him a couple days offense, a couple days defense,” the coach said. “Then give him an opportunity to go flip-flop within the same practice. And then that will kind of become the norm.”
Travis Hunter is a two-way star who is an explosive wide receiver and effective cornerback during his time at Colorado. As a wide receiver, he got 1,258 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. As a cornerback, he had four interceptions and 11 pass deflections, making him one of the best in the nation on both ends of the field.

Travis Hunter Gets Praised From Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence
With the Jacksonville Jaguars training camp already ongoing, Travis Hunter is certainly coming in with a lot of hype. The No. 2 overall pick is already impressing many of his teammates and coaches, including quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who was all praise for Hunter during an interview with The Athletic.
The quarterback was asked if he thinks Hunter can handle the challenge of playing both offense and defense in the NFL.
“He can handle it,” he said. “That’s what’s unique and special about him. He’s the best-conditioned guy I think I’ve ever seen. He can run all day up and down the field. I haven’t seen him tired one time. He’s fresh when he goes into the locker room after practice. Everybody else is gassed, and he’s like, ‘I feel great.’ It’s unique. I don’t know what he does, or if he’s just born that way. I know he works really hard, but it’s impressive to see him (in action).”
Like any rookie, Travis Hunter still needs to adjust to the NFL, and in training camp, these practices with the offense and the defense could get him up to speed with higher-level competition at the professional level.
