Last time out, the Georgia Bulldogs escaped a rivalry game against the Florida Gators with a come-from-behind victory. However, they lost running back Trevor Etienne in the process.
With a week of practice under their belts, Trevor Etienne’s latest injury update indicates that the star running back would return to action against Ole Miss in Week 11.
Latest Trevor Etienne Injury Update
As of Saturday morning, Etienne was no longer listed on the Georgia injury report. That coincided with what head coach Kirby Smart said to start the week of practice.
“Etienne, I feel good about,” Smart said. “He felt good (Sunday) and did some things with our guys.”
“The big thing is just his ability to sustain and deal with a little bit of pain because he’s going to have some there.”
The last bit of news from Smart, however, is a bit more concerning.
Sure, Etienne is set to return to action against Ole Miss, but it appears that he is still injured, despite missing from the injury report. It’s clear that Etienne will have to play through some pain, and pain management for a rib injury will certainly test someone’s abilities to ‘tough it out’ as Smart indicated he would do.
Etienne leads the Bulldogs in every rushing category, having rushed 89 times for 453 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
He entered the lineup for Georgia after transferring in from Florida and has scored a total of 22 total touchdowns in his three seasons in college to date.
The last time Etienne was fully healthy, he ran for three touchdowns on 19 carries against then-top-ranked Texas.
What Happened to Trevor Etienne?
Following the halftime break against Florida, news broke that Etienne had suffered an apparent rib injury. It was reported that Etienne would attempt to play through the injury in the second half against the Gators.
However, Etienne did not return to the action and the Bulldogs rode a stable of running backs to victory against Florida. Despite the success in the second half on the ground, fans certainly wondered and had their doubts around what happened to Etienne.
He sat out a drive just before the halftime break, before exiting to the locker room, and the bulk of the offensive load had been carried by Mark Frazier in the second quarter onward.
No injury or subsequent video was shown on the broadcast of the game that would indicate where or when the injury happened. Following the game, Smart confirmed it was a rib injury for Etienne and stated that it didn’t seem too serious moving forward.
Etienne exited the game with seven carries for 31 yards.
Now, with an SEC Championship Game appearance still very much alive for Georgia, his status and how much Etienne plays is one to watch down the stretch.
