Is Kansas State RB Dylan Edwards Hurt? All We Know About Aftermath Of Muffed Punt vs Iowa State

Kansas State faced Iowa State in their Week 0 game, but soon enough, running back Dylan Edwards left fans and teammates uneasy. During the Wildcats’ first clash of the season, the 20-year-old offensive star suffered an apparent left ankle injury.

The setback came in the first quarter on a muffed punt that gave the Cyclones excellent field position deep in Kansas State territory. But soon after, all focus turned to Edwards’ health. ESPN sideline reporter Taylor McGregor noted, “Dylan Edwards has been spending time with the training staff working on his left ankle. They had to tape it up. He has his head down here on the sideline trying to roll out that left ankle, so we’ll keep our eyes on him.”

After several minutes with the medical staff, Edwards headed to the locker room for further evaluation and did not return to the game.

The injury casts uncertainty over one of Kansas State’s most explosive playmakers. In his latest report about the incident, insider Pete Nakos reported that the team was ‘working on’ the injury.

The sophomore never played a snap with the offense before his departure. After muffing a punt on the Cyclones’ opening drive, which became a miscue that set up Iowa State deep in the red zone, Edwards was seen with trainers on the sideline. Meanwhile, Freshman Joe Jackson handled all four of Kansas State’s early carries during the first 10 minutes of play.

Dylan Edwards Proved His Mettle in Kansas State

The sophomore, who is a Kansas native, was expected to be a focal point of the Wildcats’ backfield this season. Back in 2024, the running back proved his mettle as a complementary piece behind DJ Giddens. Last year, he rushed for 546 yards and five touchdowns while amassing 133 yards as well as two more scores as a receiver. His explosiveness earned him the starting nod on Kansas State’s opening depth chart this fall, signaling a larger workload in 2025.

Saturday’s contest carried extra weight as the Big 12 rivalry was staged in Dublin, Ireland, for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. Heavy rain complicated conditions, and with Edwards sidelined, freshman Joe Jackson handled the early carries.

The Wildcats now await further clarity on Edwards’ status, knowing his health could significantly shape their offensive outlook.
