Jimmy Horn Jr. was drafted in the sixth round by the Carolina Panthers after a great career with the Colorado Buffaloes and the USF Bulls.
He racked up 162 catches for 1,967 yards and 11 touchdowns in his four-year career and has grabbed attention from the Panthers coaching staff at rookie mini camp, and is drawing comparisons to Houston Texans wideout Tank Dell.

Jimmy Horn Jr. Gaining Tank Dell Comparisons as Panthers Look for Explosive WR Help
The Panthers need wide receiver help as they desperately need to surround third-year quarterback Bryce Young with weapons. With Horn balling out at rookie mini camp, he should make the roster, and potentially even find a starting role in year one.

While rookie mini-camp reps don’t matter as much as actual training camp reps, Horn has the work ethic to make the team and become an NFL starter, as he has reportedly stayed 30 minutes after practice on the jug machine and studying the Panthers’ playbook.
Scouts were a fan of Horn’s footwork and crisp route-running ability during the evaluation process leading up to the NFL Draft, but the biggest concern for Horn’s jump to the NFL was his size.
Horn only stands at 5’8″, which is probably where the Tank Dell comparisons come from, as the young Texans receiver is also that height. Dell has been injury-prone throughout his short NFL career and is likely going to miss the entire 2025 season because of it.

Horn does weigh ten pounds more than Dell, which should help him stay healthy, but there’s no question that his size is a concern. The talent is there for Horn, and if healthy, he could easily carve out a role for himself in his rookie season with Carolina.
It’ll be interesting to see how Horn does in training camp and if his game translates from college to the pros, but the praise he’s getting thus far in his NFL career is a good sign for the sixth round pick.
