After getting fired from Penn State, it did not take long for former Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin to land a new job. He will now coach the Virginia Tech Hokies, and he will have a tall task ahead of him as the school hopes that he will turn their football program around after a disappointing season so far. The question now is, will he coach against Miami later today?
Virginia Tech hired Franklin on Nov. 17 and has likely not gotten to know his new players that well yet and will probably need some more time to adjust. For the Miami game, it is more than likely that he will not be coaching the Hokies, with that job instead going to interim head coach Philip Montgomery. He is the one tasked to lead the team after head coach Brent Pry was fired last September.
However, the Palm Beach Post has reported that while he will not be the one on the sidelines, Franklin will be present during the game as he will be part of several pregame festivities. He will also be expected to meet with several high school recruits ahead of the game.
Franklin’s buyout from Penn State will be affected by his hiring at Virginia Tech, as he and his former employer have agreed to a more reasonable $9 million settlement, which is down from his nearly $49 million expected buyout. His new contract at Virginia Tech will make up for that other $40 million.

How Much Money Will James Franklin Make With His New Contract At Virginia Tech?
With his buyout from Penn State now taken care of, this now begs the question of how much money James Franklin will be making at his new school.
He signed a five-year contract with the school, with its worth being $41.75 million. This means that he will be making $8.2 million per year. This means that if he is still with the school in four years, he would make $12.75 million and then $13.25 million in five years.
In addition, the school also agreed to raise the salary for Franklin’s assistants to $15.5 million, which is much higher than the $7 million that former coach Brent Pry’s staff had been making.
Before Franklin signed with Virginia Tech, Arkansas tried to make a bid for him, but he ultimately went with the Hokies instead.
