Haynes King and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets improved upon their 2024 performance this season. The ACC program ended the year with a 9-3 overall record and a No. 22 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Due to Notre Dame declining to participate in this year’s Pop-Tarts Bowl, in protest for not being selected for the CFP this year, the Yellow Jackets are getting the chance to participate in the game against the BYU Cougars. One question that has popped into many fans’ minds is whether or not their starting quarterback will be with them for a final game before going to the NFL.
For my fellow stats nerds,
Haynes King needs just 1 more TD to become the first ever Jacket with 90+ Career TDs
He needs 101 yards to become just the 2nd Jacket with 10,000+ Career Yards

They got a direct answer from the signal-caller himself, who answered the question earlier this week during a press conference. For Haynes King, there’s no way he would be skipping this game:
“Throughout this year, we put our blood, sweat and tears into this team,” King said. “I’m not one to quit and be selfish. I always finish what I start.”
During the press conference, it became clear that Georgia Tech is proud of the kind of leader it is molding in its football program. Here’s what Chris Weinke, the school’s assistant head coach, said of King’s answer:
“He represents exactly what college football is all about,” said Chris Weinke, Georgia Tech’s assistant head coach and co-offensive coordinator. “Everything he does, he does it for the people around him.”
There’s also one more record for Haynes King to chase in the game. He’s one touchdown away from becoming the first Yellow Jackets with 90+ career touchdown passes, and 101 passing yards away from becoming the second player in school history with 10,000+ passing yards.

Is Haynes King Playing in The Bowl Game Today?
Yes, the ACC Player of the Year himself confirmed that he will be playing a final game with Georgia Tech this season. Expect to see Haynes King playing at the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
Who will be Georgia Tech’s starting QB for the Pop-Tarts Bowl today?
It’s expected that Haynes King will be the starter for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets this afternoon as they take on the BYU Cougars. The signal-caller still has a couple of school records within reach, so it’s expected he will receive the opportunity to grab them.
