LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was a preseason favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. While he has not had a season that puts him in contention for the award, he is still among the best QBs in the SEC. Despite that, the Tigers have struggled in recent weeks, losing four of their past five games.
Things are going from bad to worse for the LSU Tigers as he will not start on Saturday against Arkansas. According to reports from several insiders, the LSU QB will miss the game because of an abdominal injury.
“It’s looking increasingly likely that LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier won’t start vs. Arkansas tomorrow due to injury and that backup Michael Van Buren will end up getting the start, sources tell CBS Sports. Final determination expected to be made tomorrow.”

What Happened to Garrett Nussmeier?
Garrett Nussmeier did not suffer an injury during a game. He got through last week’s 20-0 loss to No.4-ranked Alabama without any issues. However, according to reports, he suffered an abdominal injury during practice on Thursday. This landed him on the SEC availability report.
Initially, Nussmeier was listed as probable to play this weekend. However, things shifted on Friday, with many reports indicating that he had been downgraded to questionable.
The injury came at a point when Nussmeier was looking to regain the trust of the coaching staff. He was benched in Week 11 against Alabama.
With Nussmeier out, the Tigers will turn to Michael Van Buren to start for them. The sophomore QB completed five of 11 passes for 52 yards last week in relief of Nussmeier.
